Corby was a small village with Viking origins mentioned in the Domesday Book, which grew slowly until the 1930s saw large housing estates built around it to serve the expanding steel works. The church is not in the old settlement centre, but there is a small possibility of archaeological remains on the site and the Historic Environment Record should be consulted.
This is one of several interesting churches built for the new town around this time. The church was built in 1962, designed by the architect D F Martin-Smith. Recently the parish was combined with that of St John's.
A simple but strong design based around a square central room, with tall gables to each side with strip windows along the interstices, topped by a central folded pyramid or star with spike fleche. There are small porches on the north and south sides, each with a ceramic figure to each side wall, made by the artist Alan Boyson, who also designed the font. His Tree of Knowledge mural at Salford is better known, as well as other work in Derby and Hull. The Tiles and Ceramic Society and the 20th century Socity have recently raised the profile of this artist, achieving the listing of the Salford mural and praising his work here.

A simple foyer in the south arm of the cross leads into the main worship space through a glazed screen. The foyer has space for meetings and is flanked by an office and plain Lady Chapel, the vestry is in another corner. The worship space is very welcoming, light, well-maintained and airy, with a central terrazzo pedestal altar in the middle on a dais with a suspended cross above in the same material. Plain rails with lectern, circular pulpit positioned against the wall.
The font is the main feature of interest, a tub shape with raised semi-abstracted images by Boyson of crosses, churches, Eucharistic images etc in white glazed tile. Good contemporary benches facing the altar on all sides, woodblock floors. Large 3-manual organ with Gothic case, by J J Binns of Leeds, 1919 brought from Christ Church, Quinton. Bell by the Whitechapel foundry, 1962.
