St. Mary's current church is the second building to be built on the site. In 1866 -68 the main original building was demolished and the current building built to the same footprint. The tower was not affected by this rebuild.

St. Mary's current church is the second building to be built on the site. The first building was built as a Puritain Meeting House in 1657 and consecrated as the West Cowes Chappell by Bishop Morley of Winchester in 1662.
The tower was added by the Ward Family to create a family chapel and vault for the interment of 17 family members in 1816.
In 1866 -68 the main building was demolished and the current building built to the same footprint. The tower was not affected by this rebuild.
The chancel was enlarged to its current size in 1900.
The church hall was added to the North side of the church in 1974.

The building consists of an 80' nave, a chancel with choir stalls for up to 30 choir and sanctury with high altar set on 4 steps.two gallerys run the full length of the nave with seating on 3 levels.
