St Mary’s is a Grade II Listed building on the site of a pre-Norman church. The church was apparently re-built in Norman times with further rebuilding in the late 12th, 13th and 14th Centuries, having fallen into a ruinous condition. It was extensively restored in 1871/72 by the then owner of Kirkby Fleetham Hall. The churchyard was closed for burials in the mid-19th Century.
