St Michael’s Church, Kirklington is at the southern end of the village and is a Grade I listed building dating from the 14th century. Kirklington is part of the United Parish of Kirklington, Burneston, Wath and Pickhill. The church is used regularly for worship at Sunday services each week, for school activities and for weddings, baptisms and funerals.
Building is open for worship
Footprint of Church buildings: 520 m²
The churchyard has two separate entrances, the main one of which has a lych-gate. All the pathways have a good tarmac surface; the grass is mown regularly and kept short. Trees and hedges are kept in good order. There are two outside taps specially housed for frost protection. The entire churchyard is continually maintained to provide a tranquil resting place as well as the church itself being a happy place for weddings and baptisms.
Entrance to the church is through the north door where a light automatically comes on to show people the way in. Hymn and prayer books are kept near to the entrance door. The church has recently had a new heating system installed, which heats the building to a warm level in cold weather within a two-hour period. The organ has also been improved to bring it up to the required standard for the requirements of the church and the organist. A new silent flushing toilet has been installed together with a sink area and a hot water system. The interior lighting has been replaced resulting in far better light levels in the church and also being more environmentally friendly. These additions have proved to be a great success and are much appreciated by both parishioners and visitors.
