St Mark’s Harrogate was designed by J Oldrid Scott and built between 1896 and 1905. The West tower of the original design was never added and the West end was clad in stone with a rose window in 1956. It is Grade ll listed. The church is situated on the South side of Harrogate within the Harrogate conservation area. In 1997/8, major reordering was carried out with the insertion of floors in the west end of the nave and the vestries, a new West porch and an extension on the North side housing a hall and toilets. The design for this was by James Thorp & Partners. The reordering included the chancel and a moveable screen was introduced to make the East end into a small chapel with the reredos lowered to form a focus at eye height for the chapel.
