The church probably stood here before the Norman Conquest, the base of the tower is believed to be early Norman, possibly Saxon. Most of the church is 12th and 13th century.

There are traces of Norman arcading in the north wall of the nave. The font is 12th or 13th century, the rood screen about 1500 and the pulpit is Jacobean on a modern base. The tracery of the north window of the nave contains the church’s only old stained glass.
