The 1839 church was the first built on this land. The oak pews, pulpit and altar rails reflect the Victorian tradition and layout. The church was built as a chapel of Ease to Thornton Church to save villagers the six mile return journey to Thornton. The village had changed from a hamlet of farmers and handloom weavers into a mill village.

Access is via the south porch which opens into the nave. The chancel separates the North and South Transepts. The North houses the organ and the south our children’s church. At the rear of the church is a gallery overlooking the nave which is accessed by a staircase turret to the West of the porch. The belfry and tower are accessed from the gallery.
The woodwork of altar, altar rails, altar frontal holder, pulpit, organ screen and pews is well made oak. A wooden plaque war memorial was fixed to the North Wall towards the rear of the church in the 1950s. The stained glass in the East window and North and South transepts and two windows in the nave are also of local significance.
