St Paul’s Church Deptford is a Grade I listed building, occupying a triangular site between Deptford high Street and Deptford Church Street. The site was established in the expanding, strategically important naval town of Deptford, under Queen Anne’s 1710 Church Building Act. It was designed by Thomas Archer in 1713 and consecrated in June 1730. Along with St. Nicholas Church Deptford and the terraces in Albury Street, St Paul’s is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the area. The Pevsner guide says that St Paul’s ‘comes closer to Borromini and the Roman Baroque than any other English church of this date’. The plan form is a blend of the Greek cross, which gives a dramatically broad and open sanctuary, combined with traditional English nave and aisles, which accommodate the galleries.
Building is open for worship
Car park, toilets, accessible toilet, ramped entrance A guide book is available The church hosts organ/music concerts, school visits, guided tours, drawing/art classes and community events.
