Sant Stephen's Church is medeival with a worshipping community that probably dates back to the 11th century. The first mention of the church in local historical records is dated 1304 when the site was a small chapel of the Benedictine Monastery at Glastonbury. The church was entirely rebuilt in 1470 to the needs of the growing local merchant community. In the late 19th century a re-gothicizing of the church took place and much of the building was restored.
