The first stone was laid in 1913 and the building was completed in late 1914. The consecration took place in November 1915. The building is constructed with a long central Nave with gable ends at the South East and North West ends. To each side of this there are lower side aisles and to the front left hand side there is a wider projection taking the building up to the boundary with the pavement of St John Street. On the left hand side of the main section there is a bell cote and to the right hand side there is a projection out at two storey level finishing with a gable end.
