By J. L. Pearson, 1881-98. Tower of 1907-8 supervised by Pearson's son F. L. Pearson. Built as a memorial to Fr. Bennett at a cost of 30,000.
Built of white and yellow stone. A spire was intended, but never carried out. The tower is at the north-west, west of the north aisle, with.tall bell-openings. The west facade is particularly impressive, with three pairs of lancets enclosed in a wide pointed arch and flanked by angle turrets ,tall turrets, aIso to the east.of the north and south transepts.
The sanctuary is apsidal, and the north transept also has a semi-circular east chapel. The nave is tall, with clerestory and Pearson's characteristic quadtripartite rib-vaulting: the aisles are, also rib-vaulted, and there are lower outer aisles. Even the west gallery rests do rib-vaulting. The east bay of the nave is canted towards the crossing, presumably for perspective reasons (as Street had done at St.Philip and St. James, Oxford). The south transept has an organ gallery above a chapel with a seven-rib vault; by contrast, the north transept is open and ends with, a rose window.
