Local materials were used - flint walls, and tiled roof coverings - and the use of dressed stone reserved for copings, window surrounds, the bell-turret, and alternating with squared flints in the angle buttresses. The chancel is long, in relation to the nave, and both have steep gables and high-pitched roofs.

The chancel is long, in relation to the nave, and both have steep gables and high-pitched roofs. The windows are of the simplest, with a slight sense of style in the moulded trefoil heads: those in the nave are taller than those in the chancel - except for the east window, which has three tall lights of the same character as the rest but on a much larger scale. The deep window reveals proclaim the unexpected thickness of the walls. The outer doorway of the porch shows a restrained degree of elaboration in having ball-flower ornament recessed into the moulding, and the hood moulding terminates in sculptured heads.
