Commemorative Object
17th Century Monument North of the Sancuary of Sir Lawrence Washington, 1643. Removed during 1885 rebuilding and many stones were lost or broken. In 1906 it was replaced by H.C. Potter, Bishop: of New York, aided by a few fellow countrymen, in memory of George Washington (as Sir Lawrence was the cousin of his great-great-great-grandfather) The inscription is in a wreath of oak leaves: twisted columns and a broken pediment with rather sinister-looking figures lying on it
