Of historical interest is its link to Rowley, Massachusetts, USA. In 1638 the Rector, Rev. Ezekiel Rogers, was suspended because he was a Puritan. He sailed with about 30 families from Hull and founded a colony in the New World.

A 13th century stone font stands to the west of the main door, originally from St. Nicholas' church, Beverley, brought here in 1800. The lower stages of the tower date from the 13th century and have original lancet windows, one of which has been re-exposed. The single bell is medieval, The roof of the nave, aisles and chancel was restored in the 19th century.
The arch from the chancel into the Ellerker Chapel dates from 1730. The chapel records the history of the Ellerker family from 1401 to 1804.
A two-manual organ by W. Hill & Son, the organ chamber, the east window and the altar rails were given by Henry Blythe of Riplingham during the incumbency of Rev. Lionel Hildyard (1908-31). The pulpit and choir stalls are in memory of Rev. H. C. T. Hildyard (1852-1897). The nave was re-seated in 1925. A fine modern stained glass window of St. Peter was given in 1965.
Major repairs to the exterior walls, copings and buttresses were undertaken in 1985, finished in 1994. A number of windows have been reglazed and the lighting improved.
In 1994, brethren from USA gave a stained glass window to honour the memory of their founder, which can be found in the Ellerker Chapel.
