Grange Fell Church

Very domestic in scale and style it is all the more unusual for that. Now celebrating its centenary the Fell Church is one of the Mission Churches built during the late 19th and early 20th centuries to cater for people who did not have easy access to their parish church. The church and land on which it sits was given by Miss Sophia Mary Arkwright, according to the wishes and in memory of her sister Henrietta. The east window was moved from St Pauls church Grange-Over-Sands in the 1930s.In the 1950s the original shingle roof was replaced with slate and the timber clad walls were pebble dashed. At the same time the building was extended to provide vestry, kitchen and WCs. At the rear of the property is a back garden once used by the locals for drying clothes and now allotments.
