The exterior of the building is faced with knapped flint in the characteristic East Anglian style. The somewhat severe west tower is of five stages with diagonal buttresses to the western angles. Just above the base of the tower is a band of decoration, consisting of flushwork on the west and incised quatrefoil motifs on the north and south.

Ground plan:
Chancel, nave, aisles with, eastern chapels, south porch and a west tower 73 feet high. The 18th century wooden cupola which once surmounted the tower was removed after the second war.
The church was formerly appropriated to the Austin Priory of Saints Peter and Paul, and rebuilt in 1448 with the help of a bequest by one Richard Gowty. The church was restored in the 18th century (the rainwater heads are dated 1741), a large vestry was added in 1882 and the whole building was again restored in 1901.
Over the west door runs a second band of flushwork from which depends a square label with stops in the form of lions couchant. The tall two-light window of the ringing chanber sits directly on top of the second band of flushwork and rises to the top of the second stage. The bell chamber has on each face a pair of narrow, two-light louvred windows with "Y" tracery, and the topmost stage, above the belfrey rise to an embattled parapet and has two horizontal bands of flushwork.
The elevations of nave, and aisles are also, characteristically East Anglian with plain parapets and a large window area. The clerestory windows, eight on each side are of two lights with Perpendicular tracery under a four-tentred head. The aisles have much larger windows of three lights, with Perpendicular tracery. The porch at the west end of the south aisle has a moulded and pointed doorway with a label and stops and at the external angles of the porch are small stepped diagonal buttresses. At the east end of both aisles is a one-bay chapel extension which is slightly taller than the aisle. Both of the chapels have wide four-light Perpendicular windows but that on the south side is blocked. There is a small chancel with a four-light window in the east wall.
The interior of the church has been stripped of most of its ecclesiastical fittings, apart from a simple altar and a number of wall-monuments. The nave is of four bays-having quatrefoil piers with fillets and elegant moulded arches. Undoubtedly the finest feature of the interior is the nave roof which is a double hammerbeam with carved wall-posts and braces to the hammer-beams. The roof was mutilated at the Reformation and repaired after the Second World War, but it still remains a good example of the type. The chancel roof is a simpler single hammberbeam, and the rafters have been boarded and painted. The glazing of the windows is all modern.
