An attractive church dominated by the excellent Perpendicular west tower built in the early C16 with its tiered clasping buttresses, ogee arched bell-openings and castellated parapet surmounted by pinnacles. The remainder of the exterior of the church is substantially a C19 rebuild, largely in Early English style. A small section of the original C13 church tucked into the north west corner showing an indication of the original roof line before it was raised to accommodate the C19 clerestory, the Early English C13 north transept arm and the Perpendicular south aisle and its C15 windows survive the later changes. The additions include the mid C19 steeply pitched chancel, with some decent stained glass, that uncomfortably projects above the nave. The C19 exterior encloses a high nave that has its roots in the C13 with drum piers supporting the central aisle through double chamfered arches. One arch still displays fragments of painted weave pattern decoration giving a hint of the original glory of the church. The heightened nave gives that church a priory feel. The C19 changes incorporate relics from the C13 church including a piscina and an exquisite three seat sedilla in the chapel together with C15 tombs decorated by mutilated effigies. Viking stone artefacts and a hog-back gravestone hint at pre-conquest structures The church overlooks the cleared churchyard which provides an admirable setting.
