The building consists of two parts, a nave and a slightly narrower chancel: the shape of the churchyard, and its prominent position, suggest a very ancient site. The present nave dates from the early 12th century and was lengthened, and the west wall rebuilt, when the bell-cote was added in the 13th century. The chancel was probably also added in the 13th century, but was rebuilt in the 19th century re-using old materials.

Ground plan:
Nave, chancel, south porch and western bellcote.
The present nave dates from the early 12th century and was lengthened, and the west wall rebuilt, when the bell-cote was added in the 13th century. The chancel was probably also added in the 13th century, but was rebuilt in the 19th century re-using old materials.
The building consists of two parts, a nave and a slightly narrower chancel: the shape of the churchyard, and its prominent position, suggest a very ancient site.
The walls of both nave and chancel are of the local grey-green sandstone rubble, with touches of pink here and there. The colour and texture of the stone relieve the somewhat unyielding outline of the building. The walls are very thick.
The chancel east window is of three tall lights under a single head and hood - mould, incorporating some old stones. The south wall has two windows the eastern of two-square-headed 15th or 16th century lights and the western a simple 13th century lancet like the two early 13th century lancets (with Wide splays) in the north wall. The north wall of the nave also has two windows, an eastern window of one 14th century trefoil-headedlight and the western a single roundheaded light of the 12th century, There is a blocked mirth doorway, early 12th century, and a. south doorway of approximately the same date with square jambs and a flat lintel - above which is a round relieving arch enclosing a tympanum of square blocks set diagonally. The south wall has one window on either side of the entrance, that to the east being 19th century and that to the west a 13th century lancet light. In the west wall is another 13th century lancet and, rising from the gable, is a stone bell—cote with two trefoil headed openings and its own gabled top.
Stained Glass
19th Century
The east window is made up of 19th century quarries in red, blue, yellow and black with alternating floriated crosses and IHSs.
Inside the walls are in their 19th century, unplastered, state. The two - centred chancel arch is the sole architectural feature of note and is of two orders, the outer moulded and the inner chamfered and springing from 19th century corbels and responds. On the north wall of the nave is an early 14th century square moulded bracket with ball-flower ornament. The cut-off end of a beam in the east wall of the nave is probably part of the former rood-loft.
