Ground plan:
Nave, chancel, south port, western bell-cote, and north-east vestry.
The nave and chancel are of Norman date but were fully restored, c.1845 in the 19th century version of the Norman style. The church was restored again in 1891 by H. Dewey Brown who added a new chancel roof.
The aisleless church is roughcast without, with tiled roofs and stone window-surrounds. These last are in the Norman style with thin attached shafts and small scalloped capitals. The only traces of older work on the outside of the church are the small 16th century window on the south side of the chancel and the blocked doorway at the west end of the north wall of the nave. Although the doorway is of Norman pattern now, having a round arched head with a roll-moulding and heavy imposts it is too slight for Norman work and may be consibrably later in date.
The interior of the church is plain and dignified, with a tile floor and a very fine timber roof divided into five bays by four trusses of the braced collar type. Moulded braces, curved to an arch shape, support the collars, pendants hang from their springings. This roof is dated 1607 on two of the pendants, where also appear the initials WE and IA. The walls have been freshly whitened and this, together with the views of the downs through the clear-glazed windows, further enhances the peace of the church.
