The most notable part of the building, architecturally, is the late Perpendicular west tower of fine quality ashlar. It is of two stages, and rather squat, with a prominent north-east stair turret and a very low pyrimidal roof. The chancel is long and low, and of brick, and appears to be late 18th century or early 19th — with the Perpendicular window tracery re-used. Originally the chancel was higher. The chancel has a slate roof covering and the nave roof covering is of lead.

Ground plan:
West tower, wide aisleless nave, chancel.
Fabric of the nave is Norman and later Perpendicular west tower, and 18th or early 19th century chancel.

The chancel has a slate roof covering and the nave roof covering is of lead.
The nave is wide and, as may be seen from the alignment of the chancel, it could perhaps originally have been a nave and south aisle - but there is no visual evidence of this. The exterior walls of the nave have large square stones set in smaller stones of irregular size to produce a subtle chequer-board effect. Blocked north and south doorways. The north doorway has. a capstone with an incised cross and the two nave north windows have restored Perpendicular tracery. The south wall has two windows, a square headed one towards the east and another, with Perpendicular tracery, at the west. In the northeast corner of the nave is the blocked opening of the Rood stairs and, in the head of the doorway, are two fragments of an arch moulding with small saltire crosses.
The nave walls are immensely thick and the suspicion of an early date is confirmed by the Norman chancel arch, the imposts of which have a small pellet frieze. Both nave and chancel roof structures appear to be early 19th century. The inner chancel arch, to the nave, is panelled with blank tracery.
