In 1868 the parish church of St. Mary was demolished with the exception of the Borbach Chantry which was situated on the south side of the former nave. When the body of the church wad demolished the Chantry was restored at the expense of Mr. W.J. Evelyn as a mortuary chapel and the entrance arches in the north wall were blocked and a south porch added which is tall enough to accommodate a bell in the open gable.

A life-size bust to Sir John Evelyn, d.1685, in grey marble and also set in a recess which can be closed by doors. The niche stands infi'ont of a sarcophagus. Over it is an open pediment with two good allegorical figures.
