Perched on rising ground near the centre of the village, the 1780 church replaced an earlier medieval building. It has undergone a number of modifications with the north chapel being built in 1793, the chancel rebuilt in 1842 and a general restoration in 1888. The overall impression is one of classic styles inserted into a Gothic structure, not untypical of the mid to late eighteenth century. The shape of the tower is simplified Decorated with its crenellated parapet and pinnacles but with a neo-classic entrance storey and round headed windows. The bulky, precise and deeply modelled masonry of the entrance is dominated by the massive inscribed keystone. It is probable that the exterior was lime rendered with the ashlar masonry left as architectural highlights. The chancel incorporates a Palladian style triple window with sumptuous stained glass by Charles Evans and a semi-circular communion rail. However, the most striking part of the interior is the Graham side chapel that is raised onto a platform overlooking the nave through a colonnade of elliptical arches supported by clusters of columns. When built, the gallery could only be entered by a set of external stone steps completely detaching the Graham's from the wider congregation. New wooden steps now give internal access. A fire was provided in the gallery to provide greater comfort to the family. The colourful floor tiles are particularly attractive and could include relics from the earlier building.
