Following the Dissolution, the former nave of the Priory Church became the Parish Church. It was re-roofed in 1739-40 when the east window was also built into the former crossing arch. The Church interior is asymmetrical with the north aisle separated by massive octagonal columns supporting pointed arches and the clerestory that illuminates the barrel vault roof. The sense of height is exaggerated by the massive south wall, perforated by tall pointed medieval windows, that creates a high, thin, space that would have funnelled views through the crossing to the chancel and presbytery beyond. Changes of medieval style can be traced through the building to reinforce its age and the surrounding ruins and scars reveal its turbulent and often violent history. However, a sense of calm and tranquillity now pervades throughout the complex. Craft skills are evident with fine examples of medieval stone carving and statuary and nationally significant stained glass designed by Burne-Jones and Morris decorating the north wall.
