The church of St. Michael dates from the C12th with C18th restorations and extensive C19th alterations and extensions. The most distinctive feature is the double bell-cote above the west end gable with double round arched apertures to the west and east faces and single round headed apertures to the north and south faces. A short conical spire without decoration caps the bell-cote. The C12th character of the church has been largely submerged under the weight of C19th alterations. However two early windows survive, one in the north wall of the Chancel and one in the north wall of the Nave at the west end. There are early leaf form capitals to the blocked doorway in the north wall of the Nave and a fine Norman font. (C19th octagonal shaft) The outward leaning walls are buttressed by the porch and a massive buttress to the south side of the Nave and the North Transept, Vestry and Organ Loft to the north side. The C19th roof structure is carried down onto stone corbels at approximately two thirds of the wall height. There are fragments of mediaeval carved stone memorial slabs on display in the church with a mediaeval bell and a bell of 1616.
