The mediaeval origins of the church have been largely overlaid by the C18th C19th & C20th alterations and repairs. The tower with entrance lobby at ground floor level and with external steps to the ringing chamber is characteristic of many C18th Cumbrian church alterations. The square tower has distinctive corner pinnacles and decorative castellated parapet. The hammer beam roof dates from the 1905 restoration as does the oriel window at the west end. The chancel appears to have been largely re-built in the C18th with a flat Tudor style timber ceiling. A number of memorial plaques are to found on the south wall.
