Description of Archaeology and History
The body of the church built in 1843 by Scott and Moffat. The short chancel of 1895 is by Stenning and Jennings of Dover.
Exterior Description
The church is built of ragstone. It has a double west doorway within a pointed arch that has dog-tooth ornamentation in the inner order. Each opening has a rounded trefoil headed arch. There-is a blind quatrefoil in the tympanum. Above it is a large three-light window with a cinque-foil in the head.
The bell turret is of four stages. The base is square, the second stage is octagonal and so is the belfry which has an arcade of pointed shafted arches round it; the top stage is a slim, octagonal spirelet.
Each aisle has at the west a tall slender lancet light with a diminutive quatrefoil opening above it in the gable. The north aisle is buttressed, and lit by six pairs of lancet style windows, a pair in each bay. The south aisle has a porch, now used as a baptistry, and a vestry; between the two are three bays with paired windows as on the north. The chancel window has a triple lancet form, the middle light being taller than the flanking lights. There are attached colonnettes in the Early English manner and all three lights are under a continuous hoodmould.
