Interior
Interior Description
The interior with its high open timber roof construction and broad nave and aisles is surprisingly spacious. The wide three-bay nave arcades are supported on short hexagonal columns with plain moulded capitals. The chancel which is raised by two steps is very shallow and has a tall pointed arch with continuous moulding springing from short sturdy columns supported on corbels; the capitals of the columns are ornamented with carved foliage, ears of corn and grapes. The window tracery throughout the church is Decorated in character except for the west window which is Perpendicular. On either side of the east window are niches with ogival heads containing biblical scenes painted directly on to the walls. On the chancel walls there is a very limited amount of stencilled decoration and over the chancel arch some rather poor painted decoration: in the rest of the church the walls are plastered and whitened. The floors are covered with red and black tiles.
