Building
Ground Plan Description and Dimensions
Ground plan:
Nave with aisles, west tower with flanking vestibules containing stairways to the west gallery, transepts with large crossing space, shallow sanctuary with apsidal termination.
Description of Archaeology and History
The vestry in the south-east corner contains photo graphs of former incumbents which are part of the church's local historical associations and a rather attractive small engraving of the earlier church which stood on the same site; erected in 1837, this had consisted of a west tower and a plain rectangular preaching hall in Commissioners' Perpendicular.
Exterior Description
Built of red brick, the tower a prominent and not unattractive feature of the main approach from the south into the centre of Derby.
Interior
Interior Description
Plastered in ternally, with an arcade of five bays and plain boarded roofs in nave and transepts. Clerestoried nave, with windows arranged in triplets - lancets in the clerestory, and trefoil-headed in the aisles. The east window has Decorated tracery. The transepts are unusual, in that they abut immediately on to the shallow sanctuary. A dividing wall has been erected across the east end of the nave and a new sanctuary area furnished to the west of it. The transepts, crossing, and sanctuary have been formed into a parish hall, with a kitchen in the south transept.
