A very large church of simple rectangular plan and rather austere external appearance with a magnificent galleried interior retaining the original box pews. Some pews have been removed at the west end on the north side of the nave. Wide stairs rise from the entrance lobby to give access to the galleries and Bell Room. Externally the ashar stonework of red sandstone has draughted margins with punched panels and with tooled v-jointed quoins. Window surrounds have jambs and quadrant arches of tooled rectangular section red sandstone. The tooling on window surrounds and quoins is now almost indistinguishable due to over heavy restoration work. The bell tower has a castellated parapet and corner pinnacles. Built in 1788 and restored in 1881 the vestry annex was added in 1912. There is an elegant decorative wrought iron gate to the south west corner of the church yard that is in need of skilful repair.
