A large and well-built estate church of dressed Greenstone erected at the expense of William Henry Berkley Second Viscount Portman as a memorial to his parents.
The grey-green building stone and red tiles of the roof have mellowed and consequently the church harmonises well with its rural surroundings. The four stage tower has large set-back buttresses and a south-east octagonal staircase turret projecting above -the panelled parapet. All the aisle windows, which consist of groups of four trefoil headed lights in the south aisle and groups of three in the north aisle, are set in square surrounds. The large three light windows in the north wall of the nave are set in segmental heads: the east and west windows have a certain amount of tracery in their pointed heads. The motif of setback buttresses to the tower is repeated at the east end of the church. At the point at which the south aisle joins the south chancel chapel is a short octagonalturret capped with a pyramidal roof and immediately to the west of this is a slightly projecting doorway. The north vestry and porch, contained under a single gable, are connected transversely to the chancel.
Stained Glass
The east window depicts the crucified Christ in the central light - flanked by Mary, St. John, St. James and.St. Peter in the other four lights.

In the south-east window of the aisle and the west window of the tower is some good glass in the style of the Pre-Raphaelites in memory of Mary Selina Charlotte ViscountessPortman.

The west window of the south aisle commemorates James John Forrester.
The detailing of the unplastered interior is very restrained. The pointed arches of the four-bay arcade of the south aisle and of the two-bay arcade of the north aisle have simple incised moulding and are supported on lozenge shaped columns with chamfered points and no capitals. Plain oak panelling covers the walls of the aisles and nave to dado level and the open timber roof, of the arch braced collar beam type, is supported on simple stone corbels set alternately high and Iow. The west window is truncated in order that the west doorway can be accomodated beneath it and still be fully visible through the four-centred tower arch. Ornamenting the chancel arch and the entrance arches of the chancel chapels are various carved motifs: these are the only essays in structural ornamentation in the whole of the interior. Blank and white marble squares cover the chancel and sanctuary floors and form an effective contrast with the plain stone flags of the nave.
