The present church was built in 1756 on a mediaeval site. A single cell four bay space with low thick rubblestone walls and roof of random and diminishing slate the church is typical of early Lakeland church building although the roof dates from a 1925 restoration. Round headed windows and the three light Venetian style round headed east window are indicative of the Georgian period. The east window in particular is believed likely to have been inspired by St. Andrews, Penrith completed in 1722. The internal furnishings are believed to have been brought from a different church. The numbering on the modified box pews does not correspond with the church layout and the three decker pulpit, although of interest, seems over sophisticated for the size of building. The floor is stone flagged and the entrance porch retains a cobbled floor.
