Building Fabric and Features
Stained Glass
All the glass is by Hardman of Birmingham and fills every window except those in the clerestory. The aisle windows portray a series of Northern English saints.
Interior
Interior Description
The walls are plastered and whitened, and the wide nave arcades are supported on columns having capitals with ballflower ornament. The windows of the clerestory are paired lancets filled with plain glass. Consistent use of simple Early English elements has produced a homogenous and satisfying interior. The chancel, which is divided from the main body of the church by a chancel arch is further differentiated by having a boarded roof painted with seraphim. The rood and reredos, as well as the font cover and possibly the war memorial on the west wall, are the work of Sir Charles Nicholson.
