The present church of St. Patrick built in 1853 by Antony Salvin replaced a church of 1600 which in turn had been built on the site of a mediaeval church. The present church comprises single space nave, chancel, south porch, bell tower to the north side of the chancel with vestry accessible through the organ chamber in the ground floor of the tower. Externally walling masonry is of random coursed Lakeland slate between squared slate quoins and with tooled sandstone window and door mouldings and buttress weatherings. The sandstone is of a mauve/buff colour clearly chosen to achieve a muted contrast with the slate walling stone. External detailing has been carefully considered. Slate relieving arches over the sandstone hood mouldings add emphasis to the composition. Random and diminishing slate roof coverings are carried beyond the gables and protect the abutments achieved without use of visually intrusive lead cover flashings. Internally spaces are rather less inspiring than the exterior and follow the familiar pattern of C19th church interiors with exposed braced collar tie roof with exposed rafters, plain painted plaster surfaces and tooled stonework to the chancel arch.
