One of the temporary churches to be named after the four evangelists and all dedicated on the same day in 1878. The swift increase of population in Barrow, as a result of new industries, resulted in these four churches being built. Built of brick and timber to a design by Paley and Austin it is the history, not the aesthetic quality that makes the church significant; in fact St Mark's is the sole survivor. The construction is interesting and consists of a timber frame with in-filled brick panels. Another temporary church to suffer war damage in 1941 it was restored in 1946-51; Extensively altered and renovated in 1989 there is now a large meeting room above the entrance hall and toilets/ kitchen facilities. Re-ordering also took place in the main body of the church.
Building is open for worship
