The church was built in 1854 by E.G Paley of stone rubble with ashlar dressings. There is no tower and only a small bell cote but the unusual arrangement of three windows in the west end and the quatrefoils in the clerestory add a distinctive character; in fact the fenestration of the west end gives one the felling of a monastic design. It is a large church for such a small village but it obviously serves other outlying settlements. Internally and externally the stone detailing is immediately recognisable as by Paley and helps to add that much needed extra, dimension to a simple building. There is a wagon roof and the organ, with extravagantly painted pipes, is by Brindley and Foster of Sheffield and dated 1887. There is no water supply and therefore no WCs or kitchen. The church is Grade II listed but, unusually, received an English Heritage grant of £174,000; perhaps because its heritage significance is raised by its association with the architect E.G. Paley? The iron gate to the churchyard is vernacular in its design and detail but again adds charm to the overall composition. There is a cup of 1739 and some attractive stained glass and in the churchyard there is a sundial.
