Assertively Victorian, this rock-faced Perpendicular composition, levelled against the hillside slope, buttressed and capped with sandstone parapets, swept away a vernacular chapel, reflecting new-found parish status. However those parapets capture the weather as well as attention, plaguing the interior with persistent damp. The tower, added in 1885, could easily have been originally planned, but the apse, also a later addition, sits awkwardly against the nave east gable. Inside, the apse explains the compressed sanctuary to the extent that re-ordering has resulted in the altar being precariously brought forward over the chancel step, perched on temporary blocks and leaving a blank panel behind it, surrounded by the gilded reredos display. Overhead, angel hammer-beam trusses reaffirm Victorian confidence. Some stained glass of poorer quality has lost detail, but those windows by Evetts and Stammers, distinguish. Even the vestry screen, unusually of stained glass, whilst more generic in style, enhances.
