A brave decision to build a church as large as this in this location, entirely of fair-faced masonry. Approached from the west and up a hill, the gabled and buttressed tower soars skywards under a handsome weathercock, behind maturing yews and a flagpole straining with a flag of St George. By contrast the nave is quite low under a sweeping roof, anchored by a form of north transept, vestry and more buttresses. The splendid Arts and Crafts oil lamp in the rustic half-timbered porch commemorates the coronation of King Edward VII (1902). Honesty of materials brings rewards but comes at a price: whilst the characteristic Paley & Austin ashlar chancel inspires, the burden of maintenance is everywhere evident. The double chamfered and pointed arches within rubble walls and under a tunnel vaulted or wagon (framed and plastered) nave ceiling make this a setting of plain strength.
