Photographs suggest the chapel of 1709 may have been incorporated into the 1838 church: the current nave is in the right proportion and location; certainly the font, dated, and other artefacts were retained. The church of 1838, though less vernacular, was still a simple vessel chapel with bellcote and west porch. It seems this porch was dismantled to make way for the new tower in 1894 but was rebuilt to the south, hence its 1838 date stone may confuse. The tower cannot: it has the hallmarks of an early transition into Arts & Crafts its squat proportions, off-set west window (with asymmetrical internal reveals), neat, honest lead drip above lintels, etc. The partially rendered bell stage and nave bear the scars of relentless weather. The lean-to extension lies a little awkwardly against the east gable. The wide bevel-glazed inner lobby door sets the theme: on a fair-faced concrete floor, neatly tooled and painted, craftsmanship and care characterise the furnishings, decoration and fine Shrigley & Hunt east window, epitomised by the famous hat hooks on the pews.
