The church is in the neo-gothic style and is by John Cory of Cory Fergusson who designed several other churches in Cumbria. However, the present structure replaces a chapel of 1751 which had itself replaced a much earlier chapel first mentioned in 1571. Holy Trinity was built on a new site and consecrated in 1858. Built of a grey/ green slatestone its setting is, once again, picturesque. The stone of the exterior walls is laid at an angle to shed water and this architectural detail is described locally as watershot. The interior is a well proportioned space with nave and north aisle although there are no windows in the north wall. This is, however, fortuitous as it is here that a contemporary tapestry hangs. Designed and embroidered by a team of ladies from the parish it I a refreshing addition to a Victorian church. Many of the stained glass windows are by Burlison & Grylls although the St Francis window by Mr and Mrs Dean Walmsley is the most charming. It shows St Francis with a red squirrel amongst other fauna and flora. Finally in the churchyard is the grave of Wordsworths nephew and is gravestone bears a poem and epitaph by his uncle.
