The surprising position of the porch, diagonally placed and close to the tower is the first thing that one notices. The fabric of the church has a confusing history but much of what we see today, apart from the chancel, dates from the 1914 remodelling of the c. 1840 church. A relatively small building, if it were not for the tower, you might describe it as a chapel. In fact, there was, originally, a chapel on the site and its surviving relic, an ancient chest, is in the porch of the present building. The only relics of the church of c. 1840 are the oak communion table, the font, a bell dated 1747 and a figure of St Mary now incorporated in the south window of the chancel. The east window is by the well known firm of Shrigley and Hunt of Lancaster with a centre panel designed by Edward Holmes Jewitt and said to be unique.
