One of only two churches in England dedicated as Jesus Church, its distinctiveness is subtle but significant. Built in 1736 to serve two settlements, yet sited in neither, this valley floor church would be lost in its setting but for its tower, capped by those distinctive corner pinnacles, curved like Greek ornaments without the classical detail. At least the second church on the site, it may be the footings of the 1562 church that project along the nave walls, that the current roof trusses are also of 1562, re-used, similarly the tower west window and the bell of 1631. The slatted priests door is a curious anomaly. Re-use could account for the extraordinary occurrence of the floor sloping down away from the altar. One significant feature of this mountain chapel, anglicised by its tower, derives from a fishing holiday in approx.1869 and the nationally important legacy of stained glass (dedicated in 1873) by Burne-Jones, Morris and Ford Maddox Brown.
