Kirkland: Mission Church

Originally constructed in 1886 as the Kirkland Mission Room it is built of local stone with a slate roof and small bell turret. The architects were Banks and Townsend and the latter (Charles Harrison Townsend) subsequently became famous having been responsible for the design of the Whitechapel Art Gallery ( east London) and also the Horniman Museum in Dulwich, (south-east London).The significance will be predominantly related to the local community. An Honours Board, which commemorates all those from the Parish who served in WWI, having been researched by the Lamplugh and District Heritage Society was erected by the Society in November 2018.
