Although the residential buildings of the Norman Priory have gone, much of the Norman and early English church survives. Important early stones in the church lapidarium yard. Restored in Normal revival style in 1855-68 by William Butterfield whose metal Chancel Screen of 1886 is outstanding. Associated with School of 1587 and later Theological College (1817 to 1894) which challenged Oxford and Cambridge in importance. Church associated with Canon Richard Parkinson, charismatic College Principal and friend of Wordsworth and other national figures. Internationally recognised Church Organ by Henry Willis I and sculptures by the late internationally acclaimed sculptress Josephina de Vasconcellos which were donated to the priory church.
