A very small and simple church but with fascinating historic connections. As Bill Bailey says in his book the earliest reference to the church at Wasdale Head was made about 1550 but prior to 1970s it had no name. In fact the Church was only dedicated to St Olaf by the Bishop of Carlisle in 1977. The exterior is plain and simple with rendered rubble walls, a slate roof and a bellcote. The interior is fascinating with four original? roof trusses said to have come from Viking ships. Originally the church had an earth floor with few seats and no glass in the windows but as with so many early churches this one was restored in 1892. The roof was repaired in 1936 when some timbers were replaced. Is it the original font that sits in a recess in the west wall? The Victorian iron wall lamps are of interest and contribute to the quaint yet peaceful interior. The church appears to be well visited by walkers. There is a silver cup of 1565 that is still in use.
