Uncertain how long there has been a church on this site but records of a chapel begin in 1554. The present building dates largely from 1845, but incorporates parts of an older church. The sun-dial is dated 1635 and a chair in the sanctuary from 1685. Panelling (formerly backs of old pews) and an alter table (designed by George Gilbert Scott) from Crosthwaite church were incorporated into the building at its restoration in 1893. However, the interior has a coherent and welcoming feel about it.
