Unusually Christ Church retains its essentially simple Georgian character in itÂ’s entirety from the classical detailing of the bell-cote, gable kneelers and copings, panelled entrance doors and pews with wood grained painted finish. Externally the walls are of hammer dressed random coursed red sandstone with v-jointed quoins and bow topped windows with projecting jambs, cills and quadrant arch stones, springers and key stones. At the west end the iron railings remain between their stone pillars. In plan form the church has a north and south transept with a very shallow sanctuary. The pews to the choir stalls are of teak. There is a fine marble memorial to Captain Joseph Huddart, F.R.S. Hydrographer, chart maker, inventor and entrepreneur, noted for his work in charting the coasts of Sumatra and St. Georges Chanel and for his considerable technical inventions. This plaque by Fontano of Carara will have been re-set from the earlier church of 1744 on the same site. The pitched roofed building, set rather incongruously, in the angle between the North Transept and the Nave north wall is the former Sunday School which accommodates, Vestry, School room with kitchen facilities, toilets and the boiler room.
