A very large church built by Travis & Magnell in 1846-8, of conventional C19th Gothic Revival style, built of entirely of red sandstone and with some finely carved details. The tower has crocheted finials to three corners with a conical octagonal spire over the tower access stair. Internally the detailing is in Early English style with the aisle arcades supported over alternating octagonal and circular shafts. Roof timbers are exposed with truss frames carried down to corbels at the level of the clerestory windows. The overall effect is off excessive height. There are several fine C18th marble memorial plaques to members of the Musgrave family in the Musgrave chapel on the south side of the chancel with various other commemorative plaques elsewhere in the church. There is a C13th font in the baptistery to the west of the entrance porch and there are various elements of Norman stonework salvaged from the earlier church and incorporated in the present church structure and the churchyard wall. There is a carved hog-back coffin lid. This church is significant principally for its considerable size and the few decorative architectural elements that have been salvaged from the earlier church on the same site.
