A C19th church of considerable size and with a massive tower and spire possibly intended as a leading mark. Built in 1870 to a design by Cory & Ferguson. The exterior walling is of granite rubble stone with grey/buff sandstone quoins, window surrounds and other dressings. Roof slopes are of Welsh slate. The interior presents a startling and exuberant use of materials with alternating bands of red and yellow/buff brick unfinished stone capitals left in grotesque form. The use of brickwork is particularly unusual in that mortar joints have been struck flush and penny jointed and then lined in with black dye to accentuate the joint. Roof timbers are exposed presenting a cavernous interior. All stained glass windows, furnishings and fitments appear to be consistent with the period of the original build. There is a two story Vestry to the south side of the Chancel opposite the Organ Chamber. The entrance porch beneath the tower has a hemi-spherical ribbed vault with bell hoist aperture centrally positioned.
