A C19th church (1887) of little architectural significance, altered internally in a way that results in a stylistic mismatch between interior and exterior. It is assumed that the alterations were carried out in the late 1950s / early 1960s. Elliptical arcading, chancel arch and window reveals and steel portal framed aisle and side chapel are matched with pews and chancel furnishings reflecting mid C20th style. The altar rail to the side chapel is mounted on a polished section of railway line. The character of much of the detail reflects the steel and coal background of the community served by the church. The Parish Rooms are housed in a brick and slate building abutting the east end of the church and provide generous facilities for community activities.
