The church is substantially 14th century, perhaps with a Norman north door (now blocked), and unusually a stone roofed and vaulted chantry chapel circa 1329. The building although plain is rich with work and furnishings from succeeding centuries.
Building is open for worship
Footprint of Church buildings: 258 m²
It is evident (Jerry Sampson) the chapel was heavily restored in the 19th century when niches on the north wall were blocked and much of the ashlar re-tooled. “Curiously painted” ceiling ribs described by Rack in the 1780’s appears to have been scraped in the restoration, or possibly later.
A brass plaque in the chapel notes Edgar Glanville rector 1923-35 and his wife “Restored this chantry chapel to its proper use AD 1931”. The chapel roof has been the subject of a heritage restoration project with HLF through 2019 and 2020.
The nave was re-roofed in 1882 and chancel windows renewed in 1870, glazed by Clayton & Bell 1870-2.
